"Association Humanly began from simple roots when Maria, the founder of this organisation, was a young pregnant mother in Spain. She came across a copy of my little book, The Basic Needs of a Woman in Labour, and scribbled some notes to support herself for her upcoming birth. She birthed her daughter autonomously and triumphantly and this sparked a fire for keeping the flames of birth alive for other women.
As a young mother, she travelled to Portugal to dive deep into the ten-day Journey of True Midwifery. At the end of this retreat together, the beginnings of her show Mme Ocytocin were born. Inspired to continue to carry this torch out into the French-speaking world, Maria completed my book’s French translation. She did this at night, in a tent, in the middle of a fruit field that she was working in as a farm labourer during the day.
Since then, she has developed her show and promoted my book at festivals and events all over France. She has established Association Humanly, an umbrella organisation not only for her work and mine, but she has worked diligently to host diverse teachers from around the world, translated books into French to broaden birth education in France, developed online courses, created her own Yoniversal festival and all while doing her best (as we all do) to be a present Mama for her daughter.
What I love about Association Humanly is that it is a HUMAN organisation - I love being part of a project that comes from such pure and humble beginnings. "
